What is the best and cheapest SLR camera brand?

What is a compact,good quality, cheap, SLR camera?

The best dSLR brand is Hasselblad.

The cheapest dSLR brand is changing all the time. The Nikon D40 is the cheapest if you can still find one brand new. The next one would be the Pentax K2000d if you can also find one brand new.

There is no compact dSLR but the smallest ones come from Olympus.

Generally, all dSLRs have good quality. If you are looking for one that produces good quality pictures, all of them could but it is up to the user to make it so.

For the features it carries with its price, you won't go wrong with a Pentax K-x in red, white or blue, but it is also available in standard black.

I agree there are no compact SLR cameras. Best bet, in my opinion is either Canon or Nikon.
The Rebel XS, which I own, isn't bad right now at about $450 on line.

The cheapest Digital SLR Camera now is Nikon D3000 and Canon XS. The are good camera, easy to use and take good picture quality.
