will it auto focus, auto step down aperture, if not will it show when manually focused in green on camera?
Yes. Any legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lens will be right at home on your A200.
Answer by Edwin on 07 Jan 2010 01:16:28As long as it is a Minolta lens, not a Sigma or Tamron or the like. Many of the older off-brand lenses won't work on a Sony body. Any Minolta brand AF lens will.
Answer by Caoedhen on 07 Jan 2010 03:33:43The only thing you should be mindful of when using old film-intended Minolta lenses on K-M or Sony dSLR's is that you may suffer a slight loss of contrast or ghosting or strange highlights in certain photo situations. When those lenses were made, they shone the image onto film that absorbed a considerable portion of the light. Sensors tend to reflect a lot of light back onto the rear element.
This is true of all manufacturers' lenses. 'Digital' lenses usually have anti-reflective coatings on the rear element to combat this. It's neither a lens or camera fault, just a fact of life.
Oh, I forgot, yes, it should work fine.
I have gotten several cameras for free. You can either work for people or get the spoilt one from friends and repair yourself.
